Signs your lighting is due for LED

  • Metal halide high bays take minutes to warm up.
  • Fluorescent tubes flicker, or ballasts buzz and fail.
  • Pole lights stay dark or cycle on and off.
  • Dark aisles or parking areas worry staff and customers.
  • Lights run all night in areas nobody uses.

How the job goes

  1. Request and fixture count

Tap Get help now and note the building, the ceiling height, and a rough fixture count. We get back to you to set up a survey.

  2. Survey and layout

We count fixtures, measure mounting heights, and note existing controls. For new layouts we work from a photometric plan, often run by the fixture supplier, so light levels fit the task.

  3. Title 24 and permit

We tell you which Title 24 controls the job triggers and put them in the bid. We pull the permit when the work needs one.

  4. Install zone by zone

We stage lifts and fixtures, then work one zone at a time so most of the space stays usable. Ask for after-hours work if you need it.

  5. Controls testing and handoff

We set sensor timeouts and daylight zones and line up the acceptance testing Title 24 requires. Then we show your staff how the controls work.

What changes the price

Every bid starts with a look at the site. These are the things that move the number.

  • Retrofit type sets the labor, since a tube swap is quicker than a retrofit kit or a new fixture.
  • Mounting height drives lift rental, and high bays over racking take more setup than an office ceiling.
  • Title 24 controls such as occupancy sensors, daylight zones, and networked panels add parts and testing.
  • Parking lot work depends on pole condition, base repairs, and whether underground wire must be replaced.
  • Fixture choice matters, including lumen output, wattage, color temperature, and ratings for cold or wet areas.
  • An open utility or state incentive program can lower your net cost.

Notes for the Central Valley

  1. Title 24 Part 6 applies to many lighting alterations, not only new buildings. Replacing enough fixtures in a space can trigger occupancy, multi-level, and daylight control rules.

  2. Outdoor lighting has its own Title 24 rules, including automatic shutoff controls for parking lot and building-mounted lights.

  3. Warehouse roofs in the Valley trap summer heat. High bay fixtures need an ambient temperature rating that fits the air near the ceiling.

  4. Packing houses and cold storage need fixtures rated for washdown, wet, or freezer spaces. Standard shop lights are not rated for those rooms.

  5. Before new LED heads go on old poles, we test the underground circuit and check the anchor bolts and concrete bases.

Questions people ask

How much does commercial LED lighting cost?

It depends on the fixture count, the mounting height, and whether you retrofit or replace fixtures. Title 24 controls, lift rental, and after-hours work add to it. Fixtures rated for freezers or washdown rooms cost more than standard ones. We count fixtures on site and give you a written price for each area.

Is an LED retrofit worth it for a warehouse?

Often yes, when fixtures run long hours. For the same light, LEDs use less power than metal halide or fluorescent and turn on instantly. They also pair with occupancy sensors that dim empty aisles. We list fixture wattage before and after, so you can estimate savings with your own utility rate.

What does Title 24 require for commercial lighting?

Title 24 Part 6 sets lighting power limits and control rules for new and altered lighting. Common requirements include area controls, multi-level dimming, occupancy sensing, daylight controls near windows and skylights, and automatic shutoff. Which rules apply depends on the space and how much lighting you change. We list them in the bid.

Are there rebates for commercial LED lighting?

Sometimes. SCE, PG&E, and state programs have offered lighting incentives, but offers change and some need approval before you buy. Check current programs with your utility before you order fixtures. We can give you fixture specs and counts for the application.

What is the difference between high bay and low bay lights?

High bay fixtures are built for ceilings above about 20 feet, and low bay fixtures for lower ones. Beam angle matters as much as height. Narrow optics light tall rack aisles, and wide optics fill open floors. We match the optic to your layout so light lands where people work.

Can you fix parking lot lights that stay off?

Yes. We check the photocell or timeclock, the fixture driver, and the underground circuit, which can fail from water, damage, or wire theft. Metal halide heads that cycle on and off are near the end of their life. LED heads use less power and skip routine lamp changes.

Do lighting retrofits need a permit?

Many do. Replacing whole fixtures or adding controls usually needs an electrical permit and Title 24 forms. Swapping lamps in place often does not. Rules differ between the city and the county, so we check with the building department and include the permit in the bid.
