What we do

  • GFCI outlet installation in kitchens, baths, garages, and outdoors
  • AFCI and GFCI breaker replacement where the circuit needs it
  • New indoor outlets and dedicated appliance circuits
  • 240V outlet installation for dryers, ranges, welders, and shop tools
  • 50A RV outlet (NEMA 14-50) on a dedicated circuit
  • Outdoor weather-resistant outlets with in-use covers
  • Subpanel installation for garages, shops, barns, and ADUs
  • Replacement of scorched, loose, or two-prong outlets

Signs you need outlet or GFCI work

  • A bathroom, kitchen, garage, or outdoor outlet has no GFCI.
  • A GFCI will not reset, or trips with nothing plugged in.
  • You want a dryer, range, welder, or RV receptacle and have no 240V outlet.
  • A shop, barn, or ADU is out of breaker spaces in the main panel.
  • An outlet is loose, scorched, or will not hold a plug.
  • A home inspector listed missing GFCIs or an ungrounded outlet.

How the job goes

  1. Tell us the circuit

Tap Get help now. Say which room, whether it is 120V or 240V, and whether this is a repair, a new outlet, or an RV or shop circuit. A photo of the panel directory helps.

  2. Check the panel and the route

We look at spare spaces, grounding, and the path through finished walls, attics, or a trench to a barn or RV pad. A full panel changes the plan to a subpanel or a service upgrade.

  3. Permit when the job needs one

A new 240V circuit, an RV receptacle, and a subpanel need a permit. Most cities issue their own. Unincorporated county goes through the county office. We pull it and meet the inspector.

  4. Install and test

We land the circuit, set GFCI or AFCI protection, and test trip function and polarity. Outdoor devices are weather-resistant, with in-use covers in wet locations.

What changes the price

Every bid starts with a look at the site. These are the things that move the number.

  • Repair vs new circuit. Replacing a failed GFCI is a short job. A new 240V run is not.
  • Distance from the panel. A barn, shop, or RV pad can mean trench, conduit, and a long copper run.
  • Panel space. A full panel needs a subpanel or a service upgrade before the new breaker fits.
  • Wall and finish type. Open garage studs are faster than plaster, stucco, or a finished living room.
  • Device type. A 50A GFCI breaker costs more than a standard 20A GFCI outlet.
  • Permit and inspection for new circuits and subpanels, which vary by city and county.

Notes for the Central Valley

  1. Central Valley lots often add a shop, a barn, or an RV pad after the house was wired. Those 240V circuits are ordinary work here, and they need a load calculation when the main panel is 100A with central air.

  2. Dust, heat, and sprinkler spray kill outdoor GFCIs. We install weather-resistant devices with in-use covers, not indoor outlets in a damp box.

  3. A 50A RV receptacle is a NEMA 14-50 on a dedicated circuit, with GFCI protection as the code cycle requires. It is not an extension cord from the dryer outlet.

  4. A subpanel in a shop or barn adds breaker spaces near the tools. It does not add service capacity. If the main is already near its limit, the service needs an upgrade too.

Where GFCI and AFCI belong

The California Electrical Code requires GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoors, laundry areas, unfinished basements and crawl spaces, and other wet or damp locations, with details that change as the code cycle changes. AFCI protection covers most dwelling-unit living areas. We apply the code in force for your permit, not a memory of an older cycle.

A GFCI outlet or breaker trips on a ground fault: current leaking to ground, which is how people get shocked around water. An AFCI breaker trips on an arc: a loose or damaged conductor that can start a fire in a wall. They are not the same device, and a "nuisance trip" still needs a cause. See why a breaker keeps tripping.

Questions people ask

Where does code require GFCI outlets?

The California Electrical Code requires GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, outdoors, laundry areas, and other wet or damp locations, with details that change by code cycle. We apply the rules in force for your permit. If a home inspector listed missing GFCIs, we fix the list.

How much does outlet installation cost?

A failed GFCI swap is a short job. A new outlet on an existing circuit depends on the route. A new 240V circuit, a 50A RV receptacle, or a subpanel is larger, and those jobs need a permit. You get a written price after we see the panel and the path.

Do I need a permit to add an outlet?

A new 240V circuit, an RV receptacle, and a subpanel need a permit. Rules for one added 120V outlet on an existing circuit vary by city. We check before we start. Inside Visalia the Building Safety Division issues permits. Unincorporated Tulare County goes through RMA.

What does a 50 amp RV outlet involve?

A 50A RV receptacle is a NEMA 14-50 on a dedicated 240V circuit, with a two-pole breaker and GFCI protection as required. We size the wire to the run and check that the panel has space and capacity. It is the same family of work as a range or dryer circuit, not a cord from another outlet.

When do I need a subpanel?

When the main panel is out of spaces, or the new loads sit far from the house, a subpanel near the shop, barn, pool, or ADU is cleaner than a fistful of long home runs. A subpanel does not increase service size. If the load calculation is already over the main, upgrade the service too.
